Karma Bellydance Annual Workshop feat. Kimmy O Shimmy
Join Karma Bellydance at this year’s annual workshop featuring award winning dance performer and instructor Kimmy O Shimmy!
Workshop Description: Award winning dance performer and instructor Kimmy O Shimmy, will be teaching a Modern Egyptian Cabaret style choreography. It will be a short but elegant and powerful dance piece that starts with a silk veil grand entrance and ends with a powerful drum solo. The length of the dance will be around 3 minutes. Participants should bring 2 silk veils.
Modern Egyptian Cabaret is a style that takes its cues from the past, blending traditional elements with modern touches to create an elegant, timeless aesthetic. Modern Egyptian cabaret dancing is a contemporary Egyptian nightclub style of bellydancing. It is very controlled, elegant, refined and often includes some ballet. Muscular control is emphasized and movements are small and internalized. “Less is More” seems to be the working philosophy.
The workshop will be divided into 2 parts with a short break in the middle.

Karma Bellydance members encourage all participants to join us in performing the workshop choreography at our evening showcase. We find this experience to be one of a kind, exhilarating, and fun! All workshop participant will receive one complimentary ticket for the evening showcase as well.

Meet the Instructor: Kimmy O Shimmy
“I was born with dancing in my soul. With The Universe’s permission, I will keep dancing and share my passion with the world!“
Kimmy O Shimmy is an award winning dance performer and instructor. Kimmy O won the championship title of the Malaysian National Aerobics competition at the age of 23. In 2005 she acquired a love for belly dance while residing in Houston, Texas after she witness a belly dance performance in a local restaurant. Kimmy O went on to study belly dance by attending multiple classes and workshops with internationally acclaimed dance artists and instructors including Fifi Abdul, Randa Kamel, Dina, Jim Boz, Zoe Jakes, Sa’diyya, Cynthia, Tamara, and many others.
Kimmy O has been recognized for her award winning choreography and unique double veil dance techniques. Her graceful manner and professional style are well suited for family entertainment. Her favorite audience is often the children who are mesmerized, artists who are inspired…and by each of us who are moved by her power, grace and talent! There is never a shortage of smiles when Kimmy O Shimmy dances!
Kimmy O Shimmy is an accomplished dance instructor and is currently leading professional troupes in the greater Grand Rapids Michigan area.
Since her dance studies began, Kimmy O Shimmy has earned the following titles:
- 2021 Belly Dancer of the Universe first place Goddess Category
- 2021 Belly Dancer of the Universe first place Troupe Category
- 2015 Dance for the Cure first place, Traverse City, MI
- 2011 Belly Dancer of the Year First Place Grand Dancer, Berkeley CA

Karma Bellydance 2023 Annual Showcase
Karma Bellydance will be holding their annual showcase on Saturday September 16, 2023 in Ann Arbor Michigan. Join the audience and enjoy a wonderful show featuring Karma Bellydance, additional bellydance performers from all over the Great Lakes area, and guest starring Kimmy O Shimmy!
